GOT THE STUDIO!!!

After 5 conversations I was able to reserve the studio.  Guess what?  The time slot I was able to reserve it for?  Time slot that appears as my lab time on my class program.  {sigh}  I don't know why things get so difficult, really.  It's like they have no clue how to work things sometmes.  It just reminded me of the last time I was a student there.

Sorry...

Been gone for a minute...LOL

Well, I finally found a place to print my photos where the customer service was very good (she even told me of instructions i could give the tech next time I go) and the photos came out very VERY good.  HAHAHA

I photoshopped some photos from my first shoot and I still have others I want to process.  As soon as I'm done with that I'll be uploading the video.  I still am not sure of what background music/song to use.  My big thing right now is I'm trying to separate a date for the studio and it's like if it's not available when some classmates and I are available.  Actually, there's exactly ONE slot of availability and it's only for an hour and a half.

FINALLY!!!

At the photoshoot I maxed out my mem card and couldn't believe it.  Later that night I remembered that I wanted to shoot in RAW and realized instead of having the RAW option I had the RAW & L option which basically meant I was going to have two copies (one RAW and one JPG) of each shot.  It also didn't help that I was bracketing.  To see the images in RAW I can't use Windows Live Viewer and I have to go through Photoshop which I just find to be a hassle.  Now, I'm wondering if I should just shoot JPG or go through the hassle of one by one with RAW. The good thing about using the RAW & L option on my camera is that I can view the JPG on the Live Viewer but also have the RAW photo if I need to get some processing done.

MY FIRST PHOTO SHOOT WENT GREAT!!

Yesterday, I had my first photo shoot.  It was the portrait shooting I had mentioned before.  I wasn't sure how it was going to go because I expected other models to also be there, but there was only one other one.  My "mom" model is such an awesome person.  I've known her for quite a few years, so when I was wondering who to use as a model when I started school, I realized I could use her.  She was definitely down for it when I mentioned it to her.  Later, she brought her daughter by my house saying I had there another model.  Her daughter I had seen a couple of years ago and had only seen recent pictures where she is all grown up.

DOF Assignment

Today, I handed in my depth-of-field assignment.  I am the first to admit: not my best work.  I've even had "oopsie" photos that came out better.  I mean, although I couldn't get my pins to stand the way I wanted I am pretty happy with the outcome.  The shoes?  Nooooooooooooot so much.  Of course, my lazy self COULD'VE ironed the background.  I think I was so tired by then, I just didn't bother.  Then I had wanted to make a tower of shoes, but it just didn't work so I ended up only using three.  I worked where sunlight came in so as to not use my multi-colored lights.  Plus, AFTER I did the shooting I realized my eyes may have something wrong.  I realized the photos were just not as sharp as the pins photo.  Go figure.  You'd think it'd be harder for me to focus on the smaller items.  Anyways, I'm still a newb.  I hated turning them in but that's what happens when you procrastinate.

More Assignments...

Just in case I hadn't told you before.  I'm taking three classes this semester: Intro to Photography, Photographic Illumination, and Intro to...Computers.  (another issue I'll mention some other time hehehe).  Anyways, after the whole history and theory at the beginning of each and every class I've taken and will probably take, now we get to the good stuff.

Votes are in!!

So, votes were in today for our Art Movements assignment. We had ten points to give out to each photo. I personally can't really give out points just to give them out. I like to be fair, so I made my own little categories to distribute the points:

  • 2 points - composition
  • 2 points - sharpness / blurring
  • 2 points - color / light
  • 4 points - idea (meaning if I personally liked the idea behind the photo)

Now, the funny part about this is I used this to score my own photos.  Honestly, though, I went ahead and gave a 10 to my surreal photo.  HAD TO.  Like I said before...it's very dear to me.  I tried to be unbiased but just couldn't.

Assignment -- "Art Movements in Photography"

For my illumination class, we were given some terms we had to define. Then, we had to hand in those defined terms with a photograph representing each one.  Below you'll find a a video showing the photos I chose from the many shots I took, and if you visit my Flickr Photostream you'll find the photos I turned in.

Jackiri Photo?

Being behind and in front of the camera was always a passion and a hobby for me.  Career-wise I had set out on a path towards something I've always wanted to do, or at least I thought I did.  It's been a long and difficult path, but I always believed that when you want something you do just about anything for it.  About half a year ago or more I found myself asking the question "IS this what I really want?"  This question took me by surprise because, like I said, I always saw myself in that path.  I started to see the realities of that and just began to wonder if it was something I should rethink.  After so much time dedicated to try and achieve it, please know it has NOT been an easy thing to do.
